Normandy D-Day Beaches
Battlefield Study
The month of September gave
Ian the opportunity to travel across the English Channel to visit the
Normandy Beaches for a third time. This time was probably the best for
two reasons, first it was a real battlefield tour this time with captains
from the Royal School of Artillery who gave great briefings on battle
tactics, and second since it was not as overwhelming as the first visit so he
got to pause more and reflect on the events of this historic day.
The always peaceful Normandy
American Cemetery Colleville Sur Mer.
The sign showing you are about to
walk on Dog Green Omaha Beach - the exact point where Tom Hanks portrayed
his landing as the commander of C Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion in the movie
'Saving Private Ryan.'

Beach.
Pont du Hoc - where D, E, and F
Companies, 2nd Ranger Bn and their commander LTC James Earl Rudder landed at
D-Day. What an awe inspiring, amazing feat.
Always the patriotic Aggie, Ian
stands at Point du Hoc. If you don't know how Aggies are tied to this
part of the battle just Google LTC Rudder to see what he did later on in
life.
