For three weeks in late November through mid-December 2005 Ian went to Orland Air Station, Norway with one of the British Army brigades. This is near the city of Trondheim which is at about the mid part of the country and well north of Scotland. Temps were around freezing or below throughout the three weeks.

Snow at Orland Air Station was the theme for the beginning of the trip and the end. In between it warmed to just above freezing and made that slush we all hate. Here are some of the display jets with the Norway flag in the background. |
The trip into Trondheim was a high-speed ferry that took about one hour. You can see some of the snow on the hills around the fjord that it drove through. |

Sunrise at the port before we boarded the ferry. This is at about 9:45 am! |
Sunrise at the base before we took the bus to the ferry. |
Two photos below are of the beautiful landscape of farms along the fjords.

The Nidaros Cathedral which was build around 1077.
This was a place that attracted pilgrims from throughout Scandinavia. Cool gothic-style architecture.
