Normandy Officer's Mess Summer Ball
July 16, 2005

Dragon Knights of the Iron Triangle it is the year 1455.  King Henry VIII has called upon all the knights and maidens of the surrounding lands to gather and celebrate with feast, drink, and fellowship!

The British Army loves to have their social functions, they also love to put themes to them.  Medieval was the theme this Summer and so off went the American knight and his lovely maiden...

No...that knight is not the American knight!  Keep viewing.

The grand entrance to the Normandy Officer's Mess, the 3(UK) Division triangle patch is above the door.  The American knight is on the left and the friendly welcoming committee is on the right.

Here is the back lawn of the officer's mess where the tents were raised for a splendid feast to be served later.  Notice all the costumes, one of Ian's favorites was the guy that came as a pig on a roasting stick!

Sir Townsend, the American knight, spends some time with friends, Sir Underhill, the Regimental quartermaster knight, and Mr. Tolan.

Some more wonderful costumes, knights and friars.  Also notice the men fighting in the background.

Lady Susan socializes with some of the other maidens who also hail from the shire of Nelson Close

Three musicians play lovely music of the era throughout the evening.

The dinner was set and the entire court gathered around the long tables.  Even wonderful pigs heads adorned the ends of the tables.

Later in the evening the American knight was sent to present some of the chocolate from the fountain to the maiden and her friends.

The knight found his way to the longbow range to see how his skills were compared to Robin Hood!

After some instruction by the professional the knight placed all four arrows into the target.  Only in lovely Britain do you gather people at a party, serve drinks, then have target practice...no wait that would also be in the American south too.

The fool of the court shows the crowd some stunts using fire and friends.

Finally the evening ended and the American knight borrowed an English horse and strode off with the maiden.
