Operation Iraqi Freedom

Ian and LTG Ricardo S. Sanchez, Commander of CJTF7 (Combined Joint Task Force)

We will not falter, we will not fail

Corporal Booth (standing) and SPC Roche (gun) pulling security at sunrise on our first day in Iraq. It was about 0500 and we had left at 0300 from our overnight stay just south of the border where we slept on cots in a gravel parking lot with our over 300 military trucks. We were pulling security for them to change a tire. First day in Iraq and we thought there would be bullets coming at us from every car, I will remember that day for a while.

The 360 degree security our convoy pulled when we had to stop as we were entering Baghdad. There was an IED (Improved Explosive Device, ie home made bomb) that was found ahead of us. Fortunately nobody was hurt by this one. Look at the fire power of these well trained soldiers if someone would have tried to attack us that day.
