Goodwood Revival 2006

The first weekend of September Ian
attended the Goodwood Revival. No it is not a religious event, except
maybe for automobile fanatics, it is "the world’s
most popular motor race meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged
in the romantic time capsule of the Fifties and Sixties."
For three days each September, the circuit stages a historic race meeting
for the kind of cars and motorcycles that would have competed at Goodwood
during 1948-1966. The circuit echoes to the spine-tingling bark of
golden-age Grand Prix cars , thundering sports and GT cars, as well as
historic saloon cars.
But the Revival is far more than a series of
races for historic cars: it is a magical step back in time and a chance for
visitors to revel in the romance and theatre of motor racing as it used to
be. The lovingly restored circuit is unchanged from its heyday, and great
lengths are taken to ensure that everything on the site is exactly as it
was. This means that many visitors wear appropriate period clothing and no
modern vehicles are allowed within the circuit perimeter throughout the
weekend. There are also theatrical sets that bring the past back to life...

Goodwood race track when Ian was there in
2006
The joy of Goodwood is the ability to see these
beautiful cars in the pit area where the mechanics, dressed in their 1950s
overalls work to prepare the cars to race. You also get to see classic
race cars like this 1965 Ford GT40
Not only are these cars like this 1938 Alfa Romeo
8C 2900B MM on display but then they actually race around the track for
you...living history! This car was donated by Ralph Lauren to be shown
and driven at the revival.
This British 1965 Austin A95 Westminster gets
some fresh oil and repairs...then gets on the track with the other saloon
cars for a great race!
Do you feel the need? The need for
speed!
Oops! Too much speed can lead to putting
your car into the gravel when you take a corner too wide! Thank
goodness nobody gets hurt in this racing and only one car was damaged
severely.
Ian's friend Nolan's son takes a second to become
a racer himself at the Goodwood promotion billboard.
Ian finds a period car of what else...the German
Polizei.

Thanks for looking, I hope you motorheads enjoyed
the site or just want to visit in September and attend Goodwood with me again.
