Winter ' 05 & Spring '06 drives around England

Well we are off again on our weekends and free days to see what we can see around England now in 2006.  Here are some photos of one day in Avebury which is quite like Stonehenge.

Avebury is basically a village that is nothing but a complete circle of stones that were placed there over 3000 years ago.  It is a neat place to walk the dog around on a Sunday.

The church at Avebury is a neat old place.

How did these people thousands of years ago place these heavy stones upright like this??

Rocks behind me and rocks in this dog's head, or so we believe some days, although we love her to death.

Many people enjoy walking around the stones.  You can see some of the village buildings in the background.

Outside Avebury is Sidbury Hill which is the largest manmade mound in the UK.  Hundreds of feet of dirt piled up, not a burial ground, why would they pile it up?
