York Minstrel
The beautiful front face of
the York Minster - The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St. Peter in
York.
Built in the 1200 - 1300s this is
the largest medieval gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Not all
cathedrals are minsters and not all minsters are cathedrals. A
cathedral is the mother church of a diocese. A minster was the
Anglo-Saxon name for a missionary church.
The great west window is called the
"Heart of Yorkshire."
