December 27, 2006 - January 3, 2007
As Susan's mom was able
to visit us for Christmas 2005 and seen a good amount of England we all
decided that this year we would spend Christmas day in England again then
take a trip to a place that we have all always wanted to visit - Austria.
The place that people think of for three main things - Skiing, Mozart and
the Sound of Music. Since we were not skiers or going to visit the
western portions of Austria where the Alps are we chose the latter two.
We hope you enjoy our photos showing our travels.
We began with Salzburg for two main
reasons, first the best flight from London went there, second it would leave
the second half of our trip in Vienna over New Year's Eve, which you will
see later.
We began our first day of travel
through Salzburg with a proper breakfast at none other than the oldest cafe
in town, Cafe Tomaselli - since 1705.
A stroll down the famous
shopping street in Salzburg, the Getreidegasse, all of the shops are
identified by the metal signs you can see that overhang the street.
Our first primary stop was none
other than the birthplace of the great composer - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart -
born here on January 25, 1756. He moved from here when he was 17 in
1773. Of course he had been touring most of Europe as a child prodigy
for most of those years.
Susan spends a moment of relaxation
with Leopold Mozart, Wolfgang's father.
Mom and Ian spend some time in one
of the Christmas markets that was still going even though it was three days
after Christmas.
In one of the squares we found
these children in song about the Christmas season.

Half way through
the day we found our way to a restaurant called Carpe Diem that was exactly
opposite of traditional Austrian food like Weiner schnitzel - cone finger foods.

Susan shows that it
can be fun to enjoy cones for lunch.
