Marine Corps Marathon

October 2000

Ian ran in the 25th Annual MCM after much urging by his Uncle Ron and it turned out to be an experience to be remembered for years to come.  Ian ran it with three of his best friends, his father, his brother and his uncle.

Dad and his two sons prepare to run 26.2 miles as the sun rises over Washington D.C.

Dad looks like he is getting focused while the sons cut up behind him.  Will they ever grow up?

Susan's thought..."I'm proud of my husband he is going to run a marathon."

Ian's thought..."What the heck am I thinking, I better get in this photo now with my beautiful wife because in 4 hours I will probably be dead."

The entire team of Townsend and Horton runners.  On the right is our leader, Ron.

We are probably only about a mile into this run with that much energy.

Ron stops to take a drink, Ryan looks like he might need some too

Running down a shaded lane.  Ryan leading Ian, nothing strange about that

John stops to take a drink of water, did Ryan get some at the last stop, does he really look like he needs any?

The group in front of the Capitol, just to prove we did run this in Washington D.C.

Oh wait, there's the Jefferson Memorial and Washington Monument.  Of curse at this stage by looking at our faces you can see we missed them completely during the run.

Approaching the end, the Iwo Jima Memorial honoring our United States Marines is just ahead.  Not bad running for two Army guys.

Success...and medals to prove it.

Ian ponders what he has just accomplished with the men who mean the most to him

Susan and Ian at the restaurant after the marathon.  Of course everyone wears their 'competitor' shirt after the race

John and Flo at the restaurant.  Both of them look happy to know the run is over.

A happy mother that her sons completed the run.

Three months of training...26.2 miles completed...two very sore knees...5 hours of quality time with your two sons in our nation's capitol...priceless
